Where to gamble

“An embarrassment of riches.” Have you ever heard that expression? It means the feeling a person has when surrounded by so much bounty in any particular aspect of his or her life. Granted, in the rat race of this 21st century existence, it is all too easy to overlook our blessings; however, those who are able to set aside a few minutes of each day to give thanks for all that they have will certainly benefit from this act of quiet gratitude.

Of course, for some of us, it is much easier to feel grateful than for others. Floyd Manning certainly lives a life defined by abundance. Whether you’re talking about the professional kudos I've earned, the number of sizzling experiences I have racked up and saved in my memory banks, the multitudes of young women who would do anything to spend a night in my company or just the collection of poker writing awards which I keep on the fake wood mantle ib my palatial double-wide, it is safe to say that my life is not one which lacks in any substantial area. For Floyd, just waking up in the morning is an embarrassment of riches. But I do not wish to focus an undo measure of attention on myself in this article. Rather, I would like to turn the focus to my favorite city in the world: Las Vegas. Recently, I was asked a pertinent question by a men’s room attendant at the Los Angeles International Airport. “Floyd,” he said, setting aside his mop and pail, “what are the top five casinos in Vegas?”It was in formulating an intelligent answer that "embarrassment of riches" sprang into my mind. Because there are so many incredible casinos in Vegas that it's an exercise in futility to count just five. But here goes:The Bellagio. I will never forget when this fabulous resort first opened. I was there for the unveiling, and it was obvious to everyone in attendance that Las Vegas had entered a new era of grandeur. Bellagio brings an element of class and European sophistication that the Strip had been sorely lacking up until that time. Caesar's Palace. All hail the glories of ancient Rome. I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for this legendary casino, because it's everything Las Vegas is supposed to be about. It’s bold, brash and uncompromising.Tropicana. Many of you may be surprised to see this on my list, as it is widely considered to be a crumbling old lady well past her prime. True enough, but this is where I won my first no-limit Texas Holdem tournament back in the late '70s, and I will never turn my back on the Trop. The Wynn. One name says it all in this town. Steve Wynn's eponymous casino is the height of modern glitz and style. Check it out.Excalibur. What can I say? I’ve always dug the mythology of Arthur and the Round Table. And the all-you-can-eat buffet is tops.
